Chatular is free while in beta: what that means

3 min read

Chatular is in beta, and while it is, everything is free: the chat, attachments, created files and designs, voice input, the Android app, the VS Code extension and the Chrome extension. No card is collected and nothing is billed. This post explains the fine print so there is none.

What "free" covers

  • Guests, without an account: a handful of replies per conversation and per day, one image attachment and one designed image per conversation, and voice input. Guest conversations are not saved.
  • A free account: conversations, files and designs saved and synced across devices, document attachments, file creation, sharing by link, private mode, and the apps and extensions.

The fair-use limits

Limits exist so one account cannot use everyone's capacity. There are three:

  • Token window. AI usage is measured in tokens over a rolling window. When the window is used up, a banner above the message box says when it resets. Nothing is billed, and the window refreshes on its own.
  • Storage. Your history, attachments and the images and files created for you count toward a cap shown on the Usage tab in Settings.
  • Per conversation. Each conversation has a message limit; start a new chat to keep going. The old one stays in your history.

The current figures are on the Usage tab and on the Pricing page. They can change while the product is in beta.

What we promise about pricing

If paid plans arrive, the pricing will be published before anyone is charged. There is no trial that turns into a charge, and no account will be charged without choosing to subscribe. The Privacy Policy & Terms says the same in the formal language.

Why a beta

Because the product is still changing week to week, and a beta is the honest label for that. AI answers can be wrong, and features move. Tell us what breaks: Contact, or the Support button at the bottom right of the chat.
