Customize the look

Chatular's look is yours to change: light or dark, text size, where your history sits, the colour of your messages and what sits behind the conversation. Open the Theme button on the floating rail at the right edge of the page (on phones it is in the top bar). The drawer has no dark overlay, so the page behind it is the live preview: every change applies the moment you click it. The same controls sit in Settings › Theme.

Appearance

Light, Dark or System, which follows your operating system. Light is the default on a first visit. The same choice is in Settings › Theme.

Layout

Where past conversations live (signed in only):

  • Timeline the shipped look: your history as cards under the composer, and the History panel from the top bar mid-conversation.
  • Sidebar a floating panel on the left edge with the same history as flat rows. It shows on wide screens; on narrower ones History stays in the top bar.

Text size

Small, Default, Large or Larger. Scales the transcript, your bubbles and the composer together; the rest of the page keeps its size.

Background

  • Default the brand tile pattern, drawn in whichever colour you picked below.
  • None just the plain surface colour.
  • Colour picking a swatch (Blue, Teal, Green, Purple, Rose, Amber or Graphite), or any colour from the rainbow Custom swatch at the end of the row, tints the background with a soft gradient and colours your own messages, the send button and the other accents to match. Default restores the warm brown look. Tints are mixed into the surface, so they stay soft in light and dark mode alike.
  • Photos a bundled set grouped as Soft and Linear. Soft is low-detail and soft-focus and Linear is smooth two- and three-tone gradients, so both stay readable behind live text. Every photo is dimmed automatically by an amount measured for it in light and dark mode. Photo backgrounds need an account; signed out, the section shows a sign-in prompt.

Show the Theme button

Signed in, Settings › Theme has a switch for whether the Theme button appears on the chat page at all. It is on by default; turn it off for a page with nothing floating over it. The controls stay where they are in Settings, so nothing is lost — and the button comes back on its own if you sign out.

Reset

Reset at the top of the Background section puts everything back to the shipped look: default background and colour, default text size, and timeline layout.

Where it is saved: your choices are kept in this browser straight away, so they survive a refresh even when signed out. Signed in, they are also saved to your account and follow you to every device. Appearance, text size and colour are open to everyone; layout and photos need an account.
