Creating files

Creating files

Ask for a file by name or format and Chatular creates it for you to download. The reply shows a file card instead of a long block of text.

What you can create

  • Documents PDF, Word (.docx), Markdown (.md) and plain text (.txt): reports, CVs, letters, proposals, guides.
  • Spreadsheets Excel (.xlsx) and CSV: budgets, trackers and calculators. Excel files carry real formulas, so totals update when you change a number.
  • Presentations PowerPoint (.pptx): slide decks with a colour theme and speaker notes.

How to ask

  • Name the format: "Make an Excel sheet for a monthly budget", "Write a one page offer letter as PDF", "Create a 6 slide PowerPoint about online payments".
  • If you only ask for the content ("write me a CV") you get it in the chat, with an offer to turn it into a file.
  • Details you did not give appear in [square brackets] for you to fill in.
  • To change the file, ask in the chat ("add a column for last month") or edit it yourself (below). To get the same content in another format, ask: "give me that as Word".

The file card

  • View, or a click anywhere on the card, opens a read-only preview: a document as a page, a spreadsheet with its formulas worked out, a presentation slide by slide with its notes.
  • Edit opens the editor. On a spreadsheet, Edit opens it in the sheet view as a file of its own (see The sheet view below).
  • Download saves the file under its own name. On the phone apps it opens the share sheet.

Editing a file

Editing happens in Chatular; saving rebuilds the file in a moment and does not use any of your token allowance.

  • Spreadsheets open in the sheet view (below), where you edit the sheet itself.
  • Documents type on the page. The toolbar has bold, italic, three heading levels, normal text, and bullet and numbered lists. Table cells can be edited in place.
  • Presentations pick a slide on the left; edit its title, subtitle, points and speaker notes on the right. One point per line; start a line with two spaces for a sub-point. Add, delete and reorder slides.
  • The file name at the top of the panel can be changed too. Closing with unsaved changes asks first.

Zoom

The − and + buttons at the top of the panel make the file larger or smaller, from 50% to 200%, in both the preview and the editor. Click the percentage to go back to 100%. Ctrl / Cmd + scroll wheel zooms as well. Zoom only changes how the file looks in the panel, not the file itself.

The sheet view

The Spreadsheet card under the message box opens a space made for spreadsheets. The page turns green and shows a sheet, so you can tell you are making a file, not just chatting.

  • Pick a quick start (Monthly budget, Sales tracker, Invoice…) or describe the sheet you need. The sheet fills the page, and the chat moves to a sidebar on the left. On a phone you see one at a time: Chat and Preview, above the message box, switch between them.
  • Ask for changes in the chat, for example "add a tax column". The sheet blurs while the AI works, then shows the new version.
  • Or change it yourself: click a cell and type, double-click to edit what is there, or use the formula bar. Start with = for a formula. Arrow keys, Enter, Tab and Delete work as in other spreadsheet apps. Your changes save on their own, and the AI continues from them.
  • Share and Download sit at the end of the formula bar. Back, beside the logo, returns to the main page.
  • In an ordinary chat, Edit on a spreadsheet card opens that sheet in the sheet view as a file of its own. The chat stays as it was, and Edit again reopens the same file.
  • These files are listed under Files in your history.

The document, PDF and slides views

The Document, PDF and Slides cards work the same way, each in its own colour. Describe what you need and the file fills the page beside the chat. Ask for changes in the chat, or press Edit to change it yourself and then Save changes. Share is at the top of the file and Download at the bottom. These files are listed under Files too.

The design views

The Poster, Banner and Social post cards open a space for designs: a tall poster, a wide banner or a square post. Describe it and the picture appears beside the chat. A design is changed by asking in the chat, for example "make it gold" or "add the address", not by hand. Click the picture for full screen. Share and Download are at the top. These are listed under Designs in your history.

The email view

The Email card opens a space for writing emails. Say who it is for and what it should say, and the draft appears beside the chat as an email, with its subject and body. Ask for changes in the chat, for example "make it shorter" or "more formal". Copy copies the draft, and Open in mail app opens it in your own mail program; Chatular does not send email itself. These chats stay under Chats in your history. The Resume card works like the PDF view and makes a one-page resume, listed under Files.

The website view

The Website card makes a one-page website as a single HTML file. Describe the page and it appears beside the chat, live, as it would in a browser; Code shows the file itself. Ask for changes in the chat, for example "make the header dark" or "add a contact section". Download saves the .html file; Chatular does not host or publish pages. These are listed under Designs in your history.

Good to know: the editor changes content and structure. Fonts, colours, column widths and slide layout are applied when the file is saved, so the preview can differ slightly from what Word, Excel or PowerPoint show. After you edit a file by hand, the AI continues from your version.
Note: Signed out, a file you ask for is created and shown as a locked card; sign in (free) and it opens in the same conversation. If a file shows couldn't be created, use Try again: the content is kept, so it is rebuilt without asking the AI again. Saving an edit replaces the file; there is no version history yet. A file you uploaded cannot be edited in place, but the AI can read it and create a new one from it.
